TECHNICAL INSPECTION

The Consell de Ibiza activates the tender for the second mobile ITV station to alleviate the collapse of the service.

The island administration will allocate about 1.5 million for a private company to operate the new facility, with the aim of reducing waiting times that exceed four months and that in Santa Gertrudis already place appointments in March 2026.

The Consell de Ibiza is working on the preparations to tender a third Technical Inspection of Vehicles (ITV) station in view of the long waits that currently accumulate the services available on the island. The infrastructure would be added to the fixed station in Santa Gertrudis and the mobile unit at the fairgrounds, both saturated and with delays of around four months.

The new facility would be a second mobile station, but, in this case, managed by a private company on its own premises. The island administration had already announced its creation in July and plans to allocate almost one and a half million euros for its implementation, through a one-year contract extendable up to three years.

The island director of Transport, Roberto Algaba, explained to IB3 that the Consell is currently drafting the regulations that will govern the tender, a document in which several companies in the sector have participated in order to ensure its technical and operational feasibility.

Increasing demand and lack of personnel

The Consell recognizes that the growth of the car fleet on the island has significantly increased the demand for the ITV service, a key factor in the current saturation. In addition to this, there is a continuous lack of personnel, which makes it difficult to expand the service capacity and has a direct impact on waiting times.

However, the administration is confident that the future mobile station will not suffer the same staffing problems, since the companies awarded the contract have their own staff and greater agility to hire and accommodate workers. This autonomy would make it possible to absorb demand more quickly than traditional public management.

Breakdowns and appointments for 2026

The situation at the Santa Gertrudis fixed station has worsened in recent days due to the fact that two of its inspection lines remain out of order, which has further reduced service capacity. As a result, appointments are already being granted by the end of March 2026, an unprecedented delay that has generated concern among users.
