The god Bes, symbol of protection, fertility and joy in ancient Egypt and also venerated by the Phoenicians, will be reborn this Saturday, November 8 in Ibiza. It will be at the Museu Etnològic d’Eivissa – Can Ros, in Puig de Missa in Santa Eulària des Riu, where at 12.00 pm will be presented Land of Bes, a dramatized reading that combines art, history and myth with a contemporary look.

The proposal, subtitled “The salt that preserves the body, the earth that protects the soul”, unites literature, music and performing arts in a poetic experience that invites us to reflect on the connection between body, soul and earth. The actress Encarna de las Heras will give life to the words of Ramon Mayol, accompanied by the original music of Marcela Friederichs, which will provide an enveloping and spiritual atmosphere.

A creation that unites myth and landscape

The play is inspired by the historical novel Amilcar, the great Phoenician navigator, written by the Ibizan author Juan Bonet Cardona and published by Melqart Editorial, which explores the links between the ancient civilizations of the Mediterranean and the island of Ibiza. In this montage, Mayol recovers the figure of the god Bes as a symbol of the Mediterranean memory and the spirituality that still inhabits the landscape of Ibiza and Formentera.

The show is produced by Produccions Aïllades and has graphic design by Ruth Prieto. The artistic direction is in charge of Mayol himself, recognized for his ability to merge mythology, history and contemporary sensibility, consolidating himself as one of the most unique voices of the Ibizan cultural scene.

In Tierra de Bes, salt, an essential element in Ibiza’s identity, becomes a metaphor of purification and permanence. Through this symbol, the work proposes an emotional and sensorial journey through the essence of the Mediterranean, where art becomes a vehicle of memory and transformation.

The activity is sponsored by the Consell d’Eivissa and the Museu Etnològic d’Eivissa, and is part of a cultural program that seeks to highlight the symbolic and natural heritage of the island, offering the public a unique and deeply local artistic experience.
