The weather in the Balearic Islands will remain stable and with little cloudy skies this Wednesday, November 5, in contrast to the general picture of the rest of Spain, where five autonomous communities (Andalusia, Asturias, Cantabria, Extremadura and Galicia) will be in orange warning for heavy rains and strong gusts of wind, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
While an Atlantic front crosses the Peninsula from west to east, leaving widespread rainfall, the Balearic archipelago will enjoy a quiet day with mild temperatures and moderate southerly wind, although with somewhat stronger gusts in some coastal areas.
Balearic Islands escapes the storm
According to the Aemet forecast, the active front that affects much of the country will not reach the Balearic Islands this Wednesday. In the islands will prevail clear or slightly cloudy skies, with little chance of rain and a warmer than usual for this time of year.
The wind will blow from the south, moderate in general, although with strong intervals during the afternoon in high areas and points of the coast. This southerly flow will be responsible for maintaining pleasant temperatures, both day and night.
Highs will be around 25 degrees in Mallorca and Menorca, slightly below in Ibiza and Formentera, while lows will range between 13 and 17 degrees.
As for the state of the sea, moderate swell is expected, with the possibility of swell in the surroundings of the Canal de Menorca and the north coast of Mallorca, where the wind may reach strong gusts at the end of the day.
A Wednesday of contrasts in Spain
While the Balearic Islands enjoy a stable and mild day, the rest of the country will experience a day marked by instability. The front crossing the Peninsula will leave overcast skies and widespread rains, more intense in the west and southwest of the peninsula, where hail and thunderstorms are not ruled out.
Rainfall will be persistent and locally heavy in Galicia, especially in its western fringe, while in Extremadura and western Andalusia storms accompanied by wind and hail are expected.
In the extreme southwest, the atmospheric conditions could even give rise to marine sleeves or small coastal tornadoes, according to the Aemet.
The communities of Andalusia, Asturias, Cantabria, Extremadura and Galicia will be under orange warning, while much of the interior of the peninsula will remain under yellow warning for rain and wind.
Temperatures drop in the west, but remain mild in the Balearics
The passage of the front will cause a decrease in maximum temperatures in the west of the Peninsula, especially in Galicia, Castilla y León, and part of Andalusia. A slight cooling is also expected in the Canary Islands and in areas of the Ebro and northeastern peninsula.
However, in the southeast and Balearic Islands, the situation will be very different. Temperatures will remain higher than normal for the beginning of November, with values that in some points will exceed 24 or 25 degrees during the central hours of the day.
Minimum temperatures will also be mild, especially in Mallorca and Formentera, where the thermometer will barely drop below 15 degrees.
Moderate southerly wind in the Balearic Islands and very strong gusts in the north.
The wind will be one of the protagonists of the day. In the Peninsula, it will blow strongly from the south and southwest, with very strong gusts in Galicia, the Cantabrian area, the Pyrenees and the mountains of the northwest.
In the Balearic Islands, a moderate wind from the south is expected, which will tend to strengthen in the afternoon. This warm and humid flow will be responsible for the atmosphere to remain mild and somewhat sultry, especially on the coast.
In the western Mediterranean, gusts could reach 50 or 60 km/h in exposed areas, without activating warnings, but with possible minor incidents in navigation and water sports.
Forecast for the next days in the Balearic Islands
On Thursday, November 6 could come a change of weather, with the entry of a new front that will partially affect the archipelago. According to the Aemet, rainfall could reach the Balearic Islands throughout the day, especially in Ibiza, Formentera and northern Mallorca, accompanied by strong gusts of wind and possible hail.
On Friday 7 an atmospheric truce is forecast with clear skies in the center and south of the country, while the Balearic Islands will maintain cloudy intervals and a slightly cooler atmosphere.
On Saturday, November 8, the rains could return in an occasional and weak way, especially during the afternoon, when the precipitations that cross the Peninsula reach the northeast and the archipelago.
