The Foners, the former yacht of King Juan Carlos I, has established its permanent base at the Levante dock of the port of Ibiza, after receiving authorization from the Port Authority of the Balearic Islands (APB) to remain berthed until May 31, 2031. The ship, managed by a company linked to Baleàriais currently dedicated to luxury charter in the waters of the Pitiusas.
The APB approved the concession at its last meeting, allowing the company IGY Gestora Marinas Spain S.L., owner of the pier, to cede berth number 3 to Melilla Terminal Europa S.L., a company managed by Adolfo Utor, president of Baleària. The agreement guarantees the berthing of the Foners for a period of five years, from June 1, 2026 to May 31, 2031.
The Fortuna was a gift from Balearic businessmen to the monarch, with the aim of promoting the islands as a tourist destination, and passed to the National Heritage in 2013. After its decommissioning, Baleària acquired the vessel for 2.2 million euros, and incorporated it into its fleet for commercial use in the luxury yacht charter market, with rates ranging from 15,900 euros per day to 115,000 euros per week, according to portals specializing in nautical charters.
Built entirely in aluminum by the IZAR shipyard in San Fernando (Cadiz) and designed by Donald L. Blount and Tommaso Spadolini, the Foners is 43 meters long, 9 meters wide and has five cabins for ten people. Its three Rolls-Royce engines allow it to reach high speeds, although its maintenance is costly due to its high fuel consumption.
For the past few seasons, the boat has been available for charter in Ibiza, and has even been the backdrop for international productions. An American production company recently used it as a set for a reality show filmed in Ibiza, destined for the Disney+ platform, which will show the life of millionaire families in luxury surroundings.
With this new base in the Ibizan port, the Foners consolidates its link with Ibiza, an island where it has gained notoriety both for its royal past and its current role in the luxury and entertainment industry.
