The Partido Popular has officially announced that Juanfran Pérez Llorca will be in charge of succeeding Carlos Mazón as head of the Generalitat Valenciana, following the resignation of the former president just over a week ago. The appointment, approved by the national leadership of the PP, seeks to ensure a quick transition and maintain institutional stability in the Valencian Community.
According to Genova sources, the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, personally communicated to Pérez Llorca -current secretary general of the PPCV, spokesman in Les Corts and mayor of Finestrat-his appointment as candidate for the Presidency of the Generalitat. The announcement comes eight days after the resignation of Mazón, who stepped aside to focus on national politics.
“I accept the challenge of achieving a majority with the focus on the recovery and reconstruction of the Valencian Community,” said Pérez Llorca in his social networks. “A period of dialogue is now open that we will face with seriousness, rigor and always prioritizing the needs of the Valencians.”
A quick changeover to avoid political uncertainty
The PP is confident that the investiture will materialize in the coming days, with the aim of restoring institutional normality “as soon as possible”. From Genova they assure that the election of Pérez Llorca has the unanimous support of the provincial directorates and they underline his continuist profile with Mazón’s project.
The national spokesman of the party, Miguel Tellado, communicated the decision to the provincial presidents and said that the appointment seeks “a solution as quickly as possible“.
“We think that the approach that the candidate is Juanfran can not surprise anyone in Vox. He belongs to a leadership that has already faced other conversations with Vox and is no stranger to them,” explained PP sources, according to EL MUNDO.
I appreciate the confidence of the president of my party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, proposing me as a candidate for the Presidency of the Generalitat. I accept the challenge of achieving a majority with the focus on the recovery and reconstruction of the Valencian Community. It is now open a…

From the national headquarters of the party they are optimistic about the possibility of closing an agreement with Vox this week. The support of Santiago Abascal’s party will be essential for the PP to obtain the necessary majority in the investiture plenary that will be convened shortly.
“This will help the solution to be as quick as possible,” they add from Genoa, convinced that an early understanding will allow “to implement the proposals and solve what remains of the reconstruction”.
Vox, key in the investiture
The Valencian PP will formally communicate its decision to Vox and the rest of the groups represented in Les Corts Valencianes. From the popular direction they trust that the profile of Perez Llorca, known for his open-mindedness and good relationship with the formation of Abascal, facilitate negotiations.
“He will negotiate together with the people he designates, and we will supervise,” they point out in the national leadership. “We want to close it as soon as possible, because the later, the worse for the citizens.”
Vox, which had already warned that it would not sit down to negotiate without a candidate on the table, has made public the basic lines of its demands: fight against the European green pact and “climate fanaticism”, tax reduction, education in freedom, real support for housing and rejection of illegal and massive immigration.
It is, in essence, a program that continues with that of Mazón, with whom Vox maintained a stable governing agreement during the last few months.
The profile of Juanfran Pérez Llorca
Born in Finestrat, Pérez Llorca is one of Mazón’s most trusted men and has played a key role within the Partido Popular de la Comunidad Valenciana (PPCV). As general secretary and parliamentary spokesman, he has acted as liaison between the various provincial delegations and the management team.
His appointment has not surprised the regional leaders, since his name has been sounding for months as a possible transitional solution. However, Pérez Llorca himself acknowledged last Monday that no one from Genoa had called him yet to formally offer him the position.
Despite having defended on other occasions that “the future of the Valencian PP must be decided by the Valencians”, Pérez Llorca accepted that the final designation corresponded to the national leadership. He did so after maneuvering with the provincial barons to maintain internal unity and rule out a possible leadership crisis.
During the previous conversations, he even postulated the president of the Provincial Council of Valencia, Vicent Mompó, as an alternative in case of an early election. However, Genova always had as a favorite María José Catalá, mayor of Valencia, as an eventual candidate in a regional election.
Feijóo seeks stability and continuity in the Valencian project
The appointment of Pérez Llorca responds to Feijóo ‘s strategy of preserving political stability and avoiding institutional paralysis in a key community for the PP. From the national leadership insist that the replacement takes place with full coordination and internal support, which will allow maintaining the road map drawn by Mazón.
“The sooner an investiture is smoothed out, the sooner there will be a new government and the proposals will be implemented,” explain sources in Feijóo’s team.
The popular leadership considers that Pérez Llorca represents the continuity of the previous management, but also an opportunity to reinforce the image of cohesion of the party after the resignation of Mazón.
Mazón endorses his successor
The former president of the Generalitat has expressed his explicit support for the new PP candidate. In recent statements, Carlos Mazón described Juanfran Pérez Llorca as “an extraordinary candidate”, highlighting his commitment to the party and his ability to lead a new stage of government.
With this support, Genova is confident that the investiture process will be resolved smoothly. If the forecasts are fulfilled, the plenary session could be held before the end of the week, which would allow Pérez Llorca to formally assume the presidency and guarantee the continuity of the policies initiated during the legislature.
