Filmmakers Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, popularly known as Los Javis, have decided to separate their personal paths after almost thirteen years of relationship. The news, confirmed by sources close to the newspaper El País, has surprised both the audiovisual industry and their fans.
Despite the breakup, both have chosen to keep their professional collaboration intact, a creative alliance that has made them one of the most influential duos in Spanish film and television.
A separation in the middle of shooting his new movie
According to sources quoted by El País, the directors of La llamada are no longer a couple, although they continue to work “better than ever” on the projects they share. Their professional commitment remains firm, especially with “La bola negra”, the ambitious feature film they are both directing and which they themselves have described as “the most beautiful project of their lives”.
The confirmation of the breakup coincides with the closing of the main shooting of this film, whose filming recently ended with a crew celebration. There are still some scenes to be filmed, but the work environment (according to those around them) remains cordial and focused.
So far, neither of them has made any public statements about their separation. However, some recent details have attracted attention, such as the presence of Javier Calvo alone at the last neighborhood meeting of La Revuelta, where they used to go together.
Previous rumors and a joint career path

Rumors about a possible breakup of Los Javis had been circulating on social networks for weeks, although the confirmation did not come until now. The news comes at a particularly symbolic moment for both of them, after a decade of success that consolidated them as a brand of their own within the Spanish audiovisual industry.
Since their debut with La llamada ( 2017), a film adaptation of their theatrical work, Calvo and Ambrossi have signed some of the most outstanding productions in recent years, such as Veneno, Paquita Salas or La Mesías. They have also promoted projects such as Cardo, Mariliendre or Vestidas de azul, and participated as jurors in television programs such as Mask Singer and Drag Race España.
In 2024, they also presented the Goya Awards gala with Ana Belén, confirming their position as a cultural and creative reference.
A life shared between love and creation
Los Javis ‘ relationship transcended the sentimental to become an artistic and personal bond that marked an entire generation. In 2024, the two opened the doors of their home in Madrid in a report for AD España, where they showed their home as a space that symbolized their lifestyle: social, creative and luminous.
“We wanted a house that looked like a vacation spot, a place where it was always summer,” Ambrossi said at the time, while Calvo stressed the collaborative nature of the place: “There are always people, script readings or parties; it is also a space for creation.”
