The Espai Cultural de Can Portmany, in Sant Rafel, hosts from Thursday 13 to November 20 the exhibition ‘Museum Art’, an unpublished exhibition that brings together part of the private collection of artist and collector Anthony Gofer, resident in Ibiza since 1986.
The exhibition offers a journey through five centuries of art, from the XV to the XX, with original works and copies of outstanding European artists. In total, 28 pieces are presented , including paintings and sculptures, selected and arranged with the aim of “transporting the visitor to a small museum”, according to Gofer himself, who on this occasion is also the curator of the exhibition.
A journey through the history of art
The works cover diverse styles and periods, from the Renaissance to modern times. Among the highlights are a reproduction of The Lady with the Ermine, attributed to Leonardo da Vinci, and a portrait possibly by Titian, currently under study. Several pieces are copies made in the 18th and 19th centuries by great masters, which gives the exhibition a historical and didactic character.
Gofer has taken care of every detail of the installation and of the building itself, whose façade and antique atmosphere harmonize with the artistic proposal. The arrangement of the works seeks to create an intimate, coherent and balanced atmosphere, which enhances the connection between the visitor and the story that each piece contains.
A passionate collector
Anthony Gofer began his passion for collecting more than 25 years ago, participating in auctions, antique shops and public art spaces. His constant search for unique pieces has become a natural extension of his creative work.
In addition to his facet as a collector, Gofer personally takes care of the restoration of his works, restoring life and splendor to each one. He considers these pieces to be part of himself, beyond their economic or artistic value, so he does not contemplate selling them.
With almost seventy exhibitions -both individual and collective- in the Balearic Islands and the Peninsula, Gofer has established himself as a versatile figure in the cultural scene. His career also includes incursions into the literary field, reinforcing a career marked by curiosity and artistic sensitivity.
An encounter with art in Sant Rafel
The exhibition ‘Museum Art’ can be visited every day, including Saturdays and Sundays, from 17:30 to 20:00 hours, at the Espai Cultural de Can Portmany, in Sant Rafel.
The official opening will be held on Thursday, November 13 at 6:00 p.m., a moment that the artist himself defines as the fulfillment of a vital and creative cycle. His first private collection exhibition was born, as he confesses, from the conviction that “the universe told him it was time” to share his art with the public.
