Valve has made official the launch of Steam Machine, a new device that combines the power of a high-performance computer with the simplicity of a home console.
Along with this system, the company has also announced the Steam Controller and Steam Frame, completing an ecosystem designed to bring the entire Steam library directly to the living room TV.
With this move, Valve seeks to consolidate its position in the hardware market and offer an alternative that fuses the performance of a PC gamer with a more direct and accessible user experience.
What are the changes that promise a leap in experience?
Steam Machine promises six times more power than the Steam Deck, its portable console, and ensures a performance capable of running the most demanding titles of the moment. According to Gabe Newell’s company, the device will allow gaming in 4K resolution and at 60 frames per second, thanks to its silent and efficient cooling system that prevents overheating even in prolonged sessions.
The design maintains a minimalist aesthetic, designed to blend into the home environment. Among its most striking details is a
One by one, the new features

Equipped with an AMD Zen 4 processor and RDNA3 graphics, it promises to run games in 4K resolution at 240 Hz or even 8K at 60 Hz, without overheating or generating noise. It has 16 GB of DDR5 memory and 8 GB of GDDR6 VRAM, guaranteeing fluidity even in the most demanding titles.
It also offers storage options of 512 GB or 2 TB in NVMe SSD format, expandable via microSD cards. Its operating system, SteamOS 3 based on Linux, allows customization of the experience: it can be used both as a plug-and-play console for the living room and as a full desktop computer, adapting to the profile of each gamer.
Date and availability: what is known so far
Valve has not yet specified an exact date for its launch, although it has advanced that the Steam Machine will arrive in early 2026. For the time being, the device can be added to the wish list in the Steam store to receive a notification when it becomes available for purchase.
The price is still unknown, and the company has not given any clues as to how much its new system will cost. All indications are that the final value will depend on the model and hardware configurations, although the industry expects it to be positioned at the high end of home consoles.
Designed for gamers… and developers
Steam Machine will run on SteamOS, the operating system developed by Valve, and will seek to offer an accessible experience for both players and creators. The company assures that the configuration will be simple and automatic, without the need for complex technical settings.
Still, true to the open philosophy that characterizes the brand, Steam Machine will also be able to be used as a conventional computer, allowing other applications and operating systems to be installed. In this way, Valve intends to turn it not only into a gaming console, but also into a versatile multimedia center for the home.
