Grans Actius’ arrives in Formentera: free digital training to reduce the gap between the elderly.

The island incorporates the 'Grans Actius' program, a training proposal that seeks to improve their technological skills and ensure a safer and more autonomous participation in the digital environment.

Formentera joins from November 24 to the program ‘Grans Actius’, an initiative already present in more than 40 municipalities of the Balearic Islands and that aims to provide the senior population with tools to develop with confidence in the digital environment. The training, totally free and in person, is aimed at people over 55 years of age and will be given in three strategic points of the island: Sant Francesc, Sant Ferran and La Mola.

Schedules are as follows:

  • Casa de Poble de la Mola: Mondays and Wednesdays, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

  • Club de Majors de Sant Francesc: Mondays and Wednesdays, from 4 to 6 p.m.

  • Club de Majors de Sant Ferran: Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Practical learning for day-to-day use

During the course, participants will learn from basic concepts of digital navigation to key notions of cybersecurity, secure online shopping, use of digital banking and practical applications of artificial intelligence. The goal is to enable them to manage with greater autonomy the daily tasks that today depend increasingly on electronic devices and digital platforms.

The project is promoted by the Directorate General for Innovation and Digital Transformation of the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Innovation of the Balearic Government, financed by the European funds NextGenerationEU within the Recovery Plan, and has the collaboration of the Consell de Formentera. The Fundació Universitat-Empresa de les Illes Balears (FUEIB) is in charge of its management.

Small groups and personalized attention

One of the keys to ‘Grans Actius’ is its small group format, of between 10 and 15 people, which allows for individualized support. The trainers work closely so that each student advances at his or her own pace, gains confidence and applies what he or she has learned in his or her daily life.

The contents have been prepared by teaching and research staff of the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), which guarantees rigor and adaptation to the real needs of the participants.
