The City Council of Palma has confirmed all the details of the lighting of the Christmas lights 2025, an event that this year introduces important new features. The most prominent is the change of location: for the first time, the celebration moves to the Plaza of Spain, recently remodeled and chosen to offer “better conditions of visibility and safety,” explained the councilor of Citizen Participation, Lourdes Roca.
The event will take place this Saturday, November 22 at 7:00 p.m., and will include a great visual and musical show that will officially mark the beginning of the festivities in the city.
An unprecedented show in the Plaza de España
The lighting will start at 19.00 hours with a montage of Grup TRUI, which will present the artistic proposal ‘El ball de les dues estrelles’, a piece of approximately 35 minutes that will tell the story of two sister stars, Lira and Vega, who “meet again after millennia to dance a waltz guided by the light of a diamond”.
The scenography will include:
-
Central platform and LED screen with projections, snow effects, smoke and traditional countdown.
-
Two acrobats and an illuminated diamond as the centerpiece of the show.
-
The ‘Candelabre Galactic’, a floating installation that will descend from the sky to become the stage for the final dance.
-
13 artists on stage and a complete technical team.
The event will culminate with the simultaneous lighting of all the lights in the city, accompanied by a final effect of luminous confetti. The budget allocated to this show is 78,650 euros.
Roca encouraged families to enjoy the event “which symbolizes the beginning of the Christmas holidays in the city”, and stressed that this celebration responds to the municipal objective “to recover and strengthen traditions”.
Cort’s Nativity Scene and Royal Mailbox: inauguration one day earlier
The day before the lighting, on Friday, November 21, the traditional Nativity Scene of Cort will be inaugurated next to the Royal Mailbox, where the little ones can begin to leave their letters.
Following last year’s model, the Nativity Scene will again be installed in the lobby of Cort, with different entrances and exits to facilitate the tour. The creation has the collaboration of the Associació de Betlemistes and the artisan Margalida Nicolau.
Christmas lighting reaches all the neighborhoods of Palma
The councilor of Infrastructure, Belén Soto, stressed that this year the Christmas lighting is extended to all neighborhoods of the city, with installation of modules and garlands in approximately 200 streets.
Detailed figures include:
-
3,350 light modules, 80 more than in 2024.
-
614,396 meters of garland, an increase of 72,959 meters over last year.
-
Total budget for lighting: 1.9 million euros.
“These figures reflect an increase over the previous year (…) in addition to an expansion of Christmas lighting that allows us to reach more areas of the city,” said Soto.
New illuminated areas and major renovations
In 2025, lights will be incorporated at points that did not have lighting last year, such as:
-
Gaspar Bennazar Avenue
-
Jacinto Verdaguer Street
-
Son Espanyol
-
Plaza Patines
Lighting is also being renewed in areas such as:
-
Comte Sallent Avenue
-
Son Sardina
-
Can Capiscol
-
Pere Garau
-
General Riera
Despite the new features, the traditional lighting is maintained in emblematic sites such as:
-
The marquee in San Cosme square
-
The 20-meter tree in Parc de Ses Estacions
-
10-meter trees in Antoni Maura and Raimundo Clar square
-
The giant ball in Passeig Sagrera
A lighting that marks the official start of Christmas in Palma
The new location, the increase in the number of illuminated streets and the artistic show designed for November 22 make the Christmas 2025 lights switch-on one of the most eagerly awaited events in the city’s festive calendar.
