The Institut d’Estudis Eivissencs (IEE) has launched the campaign ‘I tu, com et dius? an initiative aimed at helping citizens to standardize the spelling of names, surnames, names of houses and malnoms. The proposal, supported by the Universitat de les Illes Balears (UIB), the Institut d’Estudis Baleàrics and the Govern de les Illes Balears, aims to facilitate the procedures to adapt these personal data to the Catalan regulations and, in addition, to allow the officialization of hypocoristic names so common in the Pitiusas such as Toni, Fina or Pep.
Since the modification of the Civil Registry Law in 2011, it is possible to legally register diminutives, abbreviated names or popular forms of the name, a significant advance to preserve the linguistic and cultural identity of the archipelago.
