The City Council of Eivissa, through the Arxiu Històric d’Eivissa i Formentera (AHEiF), organizes the VII Jornades d’Estudis Locals de Memòria Històrica, which this year are entitled “Memòria recuperada: històries personals”. The sessions will be held on November 24, 26 and 27, at 8 p.m., in the Marià Villangómez Room of the Municipal Library of Eivissa.
Already consolidated as an essential meeting point for research and dissemination of historical knowledge of the island, these conferences present in 2025 a program focused on the importance of personal memory as a fundamental tool for reconstructing the common history.

20.30 h – “La fossa del Cementeri vell de Vila: de la cerca a la identificació”, by the archaeologist Almudena García Rubio, director of the excavation campaigns, and Lluís Ruiz Val, professor and president of the Fòrum per la Memòria d’Eivissa i Formentera.

The speakers: leaders in historical memory and local research
Maria Escalas Bernat
Mallorcan writer and musician, she develops her work in Catalan and combines literary creation with teaching and editorial accompaniment. She debuted with
Almudena García-Rubio
With a degree in History and a PhD in Physical Anthropology, she has been a researcher at the Aranzadi Science Society since 2003. She has directed the fosses plans of the Balearic Government and all the excavation campaigns of the Cementiri Vell de Vila grave since 2018.
David Ginard Ferón
Doctor in History and professor at the UIB, he has directed the collection Quaderns d’Història Contemporània de les Balears since 1996. He is the author of some twenty books on the labor movement, women’s history and the Civil War. His most recent publication is Contra Franco i Falange: les resistències clandestines a les Balears (1939-1948).
Mateu Morro Marcé
Historian and author of numerous works on history and popular culture of the Balearic Islands, including Els Norats (1936-1949), the focus of his presentation. His work ranges from oral tradition to key episodes of the anti-fascist movement.
Manel Suárez Salvà
Secondary school teacher and researcher specialized in Franco’s prisoners in Mallorca and in the penitentiary colony of Formentera, the central theme of his talk. He has been awarded by the City Council of Sa Pobla and Maria de la Salut, and has participated in research that has allowed historical exhumations.
Lluís Ruiz Val
Professor of Geography and History and president of the Fòrum per la Memòria d’Eivissa i Formentera. Under his direction have been promoted exhibitions, catalogs and the map of fosses
Antoni Tur Cardona Cardonet
Sociocultural animator and co-founder of the Taller de Flauta Dolça, he has worked to recover the memory of his grandfather, Antoni Cardona Riera, mayor of Sant Josep during the II Republic. His research has been key to request the nullity of the court martial that condemned him.
These VII Jornades d’Estudis Locals de Memòria Històrica consolidate an essential space to understand the recent past of Eivissa and Formentera, giving voice to stories that, from the personal, illuminate the collective memory of the Pitiüses.
