The City Council of Santa Eulària has issued a statement this Friday to deny the claims spread by the Socialist Municipal Group regarding the departure of the head of the Local Police, Felix Julio Valverde. The consistory assures that it is not a termination, as the PSOE claims, but a voluntary resignation presented by the command itself last November 7, 2025, alleging “strictly personal reasons”.
The position of the municipal government comes hours after the PSOE registered a motion of control demanding explanations for what they describe as a “sudden and silenced dismissal”, barely a year after his appointment and less than a month after Valverde was decorated with two medals by the insular institution.
City Hall corrections to the socialist version
In its communiqué, the City emphasizes two main clarifications:
-
There was no dismissal: the departure of the Local Police Chief was a voluntary resignation, not a dismissal.
-
Error in dates: the presentation of Felix Julio Valverde as the new chief took place in November 2024, and not in 2023 as indicated in the PSOE’s note.
The consistory also publicly thanked the police commander for the services provided during his time at the head of the force, highlighting actions such as the eviction of Can Rova 2.
PSOE demands transparency and public explanations
The municipal version contrasts with that of the PSOE, which demands that the mayor, Carmen Ferrer, explain “what happened” between the recent decoration of the police chief and his “hasty dismissal”. The socialist spokesman, Alan Ripoll, believes that the public “deserves to know why in less than a month has gone from praising the police chief to a departure without official communication or institutional photographs”.
The Socialists point out that the resignation became known on November 19 through a local radio station and criticize that there was no prior official communication from the City Council.
In addition, the PSOE links the situation to a “progressive deterioration” of the police service, pointing out that union representatives have been demanding labor improvements for years which, according to the party, the municipal government has not attended to. These shortcomings, they point out, have caused the departure of agents and a “lack of police presence in the streets”, which has been repeatedly mentioned by neighbors in meetings with the mayoress.
Rumors and loss of confidence
In their note, the socialists suggest that the departure could be due to a loss of confidence of the municipal government, pointing to “growing rumors” about a forced resignation. In this sense, they ask for explanations as to when and how Valverde was informed of this hypothetical loss of confidence, and what would be the causes of such a drastic change of opinion in such a short period of time.
The PSOE considers that the lack of official information is “especially serious” in the case of a figure that the City Council itself had recently presented as an example of professionalism and excellence.
Process to elect a new Chief of Police
The Socialist Municipal Group also demands to know if the City Council plans to open a “transparent” process to select the new person in charge of the body, as well as the assessment of the councilman of Citizen Security on the treatment received by the agents by the Human Resources area.
For the moment, the City Council has limited itself to clarifying that Valverde’s departure was voluntary and to correcting the data it considers erroneous in the socialist communiqué, without offering more details on the next steps to fill the police chief position.
