A man of approximately 70 years old managed to survive a cardiorespiratory arrest suffered last Monday at the bus stop located right in front of the Ibiza Local Police station. The individual suddenly collapsed and hit his head hard, triggering a situation of extreme urgency that was immediately attended by the officers.
According to the Ibiza Town Hall, the police officers responded immediately upon receiving the alert and, upon arrival at the scene, found that the man had no pulse. They then began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and activated the automatic external defibrillator (AED) available at the police station.
The AED shock allowed the patient’s cardiorespiratory arrest to be reversed and his pulse restored before the arrival of medical personnel. Minutes later, a medicalized ambulance took charge of the situation and transferred the man to the Policlínica Nuestra Señora del Rosario, where he remains under observation.
Both the City Council and the Local Police have emphasized the rapid coordination between agents and medical teams, as well as the importance of having defibrillators in public spaces and having specialized training to act effectively in vital emergencies.
