Ibiza has become this year 2025 the island with the highest reduction in occupational accidents in the Balearic Islands, recording a drop of 42.19% during the high season months -July, August and September- according to data analyzed Monday by the Tripartite Advisory Committee of the Labor and Social Security Inspection.
The figure represents a much higher drop than the regional average, which stands at 9.6%, and reflects a “significant and unprecedented” improvement compared to previous years.
A general context of decline, but with Ibiza standing out
In absolute terms, the Balearic Islands has registered 1,209 fewer accidents than in the same period of 2024. The Councilor for Labor, Public Function and Social Dialogue, Catalina Cabrer, explained that the data consolidate a downward trend initiated after the reactivation of the labor market post COVID, with 28% fewer accidents since 2022.
However, it was Ibiza that experienced the most pronounced reduction among the four islands.
The performance of the rest of the archipelago was as follows:
-
Menorca: -12.15%.
-
Mallorca: -8.36%.
-
Formentera: slight increase, within the variability expected in small labor markets.
Accidents fall in all sectors
In the sectoral analysis of the Balearic Islands – where Ibiza contributes a large part of its productive activity – downward trends can also be seen:
-
Services: -9,97%
-
Hospitality: -11.46%.
-
Industry: -9.85%.
-
Agriculture: -8.20%.
-
Construction: -5,95%
The drop in the hotel and catering industry, which is especially marked, has a great impact on Ibiza, where this sector is one of the main economic engines.
Six fatal accidents in the Balearic Islands, three of them in itinere
Up to September 30, the Balearic Islands recorded six fatal work-related accidents, the same figure as in 2024. Three of them corresponded to accidents in itinere, occurring while commuting to work.
Anti-fraud plan: irregular temporary contracts become permanent contracts
The Conselleria also highlighted the progress of the Plan de Choque contra el Fraude en la Contratación, with direct repercussions in Ibiza:
-
158 temporary contracts converted into permanent contracts
-
1,096 permanent discontinued employees converted to indefinite-term contracts
In addition, the regular inspection campaign reviewed 1,852 contracts and regularized another 1,311.
More heat inspections and more preventive actions
Exposure to high temperatures, especially critical in Ibiza during the summer, led to an increase in controls:
-
Extreme heat inspections: from 3,627 (2024) to 4,036 (2025)
-
Infringements: from 780 to 881
Investigations also increased:
-
Minor accidents: 131 → 171
-
Occupational accidents: 281 → 315
-
Occupational diseases: 27 → 28
Labor complaints also increased slightly to 1,644 this year.
