After 101 years of activity, the historic restaurant Can Costa closed its doors this Friday in the neighborhood of La Marina, where for more than a century it offered traditional Ibizan cuisine. The establishment, managed by several generations of the same family, confirmed that the closure responds to the retirement of those responsible, who conclude a stage “full of stories and memories”.
The restaurant, one of the emblematic points of the port area, was part of the daily landscape of the neighborhood. In their communication, the family stressed that Can Costa has been “simplicity, lifelong food and our way of being with people”. In this sense, they recalled that every corner of the restaurant keeps experiences accumulated over decades, a trajectory that is part of the gastronomic memory of the neighborhood of La Marina.
A work of generations
Throughout its history, the restaurant has been run by grandparents, parents and the current generation of the family, a relay that has kept the project alive for more than a century. As they explained, the kitchen and the dining room were headed by
Emotional farewell
The family pointed out that the decision is taken “with a mixture of nostalgia and joy” as they consider an exceptional cycle completed: keeping a business open for more than a century. “The time has come for us to retire,” they expressed, emphasizing that the restaurant has been “home to so many people” who visited it over several decades.
In their farewell message, those responsible for Can Costa thanked the support received from neighbors, families, friends and tourists who, year after year, came to the establishment. The clientele, both local and visitors, formed an essential part of the identity of the restaurant, which was a meeting point for those looking for homemade food prepared with firewood. Among the comments collected on social networks, many customers recalled the treatment received and the quality of the traditional dishes that marked the personality of the restaurant. Some stressed that “it was like being at home”, while others regretted that the door is now closed after decades of service.
The statement ended with a message of thanks: “The firewood will no longer be lit, but the warmth of all these years stays with us forever”. With this sentence, the family summed up the spirit of a place that, after more than a hundred years, has become part of the emotional heritage of the residents of Ibiza.
