The Plenary of the Ibiza City Council will approve this Thursday the project to expand the cultural space Can Ventosa, a long-awaited action that will transform the facility into a cultural and educational center more modern and adapted to current needs. The work, budgeted at 2,778,156.90 euros, is part of the Strategic Action Plan to modernize Eivissa.
The expansion will involve the construction of two additional floors and will allow a fourfold increase in the area devoted to musical activities, providing the city with new infrastructure for rehearsals, teaching and artistic training. “This extension is a clear demonstration of the commitment of the Eivissa Town Hall to culture and education, and a step forward to consolidate Can Ventosa – which this year turns 100 years old – as the great cultural and social heart of the city,” said the Councilor for Culture and Heritage, Carmen Domínguez.

The project includes the creation of modern classrooms, teachers’ offices, offices, a new teachers’ lounge and a large rehearsal room with capacity for more than one hundred musicians, a key infrastructure for the development of local musical talent. In addition, a larger capacity elevator and a new external emergency staircase will be installed to improve accessibility and safety conditions.
The distribution of the new volume will be as follows:
-
Second floor: a 10 m² office next to the stairs.
-
Third floor: six classrooms, two rehearsal booths, offices for management and secretary, a teachers’ room and new restrooms.
-
Fourth floor: four additional classrooms and a large rehearsal room for more than one hundred musicians, with their corresponding services.

The new body of the building will be located above the Municipal Library, although it will maintain an independent access from number 13 Pere Francès street, thus ensuring that it will operate independently from the library and the auditorium.
With this expansion, the City Council aims to respond to the growth of the cultural fabric of the city and offer students, musicians and associations a space adapted to current requirements. “We continue to grow and train new generations of musicians, while the city gains a first class facility at the service of all,” added Dominguez.
The approval of the project in the plenary session is the definitive step to start a process that will turn Can Ventosa into a reinforced, modern and forward-looking cultural facility.
