The Ibiza Town Hall will start this Monday, December 1st, the construction works of the new storm tank in Fray Luis de León street, next to Pere Matutes Noguera avenue, a key infrastructure to improve the management of rainwater in the city. The event will be attended by Jordi Grivé, fourth deputy mayor of the Consistory.
The project is financed with funds from the Sustainable Tourism Tax (ITS) and involves an investment of 800,000 euros, plus 168,000 euros of VAT, for a total budget of 968,000 euros. The action is part of the plan to modernize the municipality’s hydraulic infrastructures.
Prevent flooding and spills into the sea
The new storm tank will allow to retain and efficiently manage the excess water that originates during heavy rainfall episodes, thus avoiding flooding in the area and reducing polluting discharges into the coastline. This infrastructure is considered a priority due to the episodes of torrential rains that recurrently affect Vila.
According to municipal sources, the work is part of a comprehensive strategy to modernize the urban drainage system and adapt the city to the effects of climate change, which increases the risk of heavy rainfall.
