The City Council of Sant Joan de Labritja has announced the cancellation of the Christmas lighting planned for this Friday, November 28, a decision taken after learning of the death of Jaume Manec, a resident of Sant Vicent de sa Cala, as a result of an accident that has shocked the town.
The Consistory has explained that the suspension is made as a sign of respect and to accompany the family and relatives in a particularly painful moment.
The event, which was to be held at the Camp d’Aprenentatge de Sant Vicent de sa Cala, marked the official start of Christmas in the municipality and included a festive program aimed at residents of all ages. It was planned the participation of children’s characters, performances by students from schools in the municipality and a musical concert, as well as workshops, spaces of coexistence and the traditional lighting of lights that each year brings together many families.
The City Council wanted to publicly convey its deepest condolences to the loved ones of Manec, highlighting the deep regret that the news has generated throughout the community. Also, the Consistory regrets the inconvenience that the cancellation may cause and appreciates the understanding and sensitivity of the neighbors to this decision, taken from the respect and solidarity with the affected family.
