A man in his 60s, identified as Jaume Manec, died Friday morning in the municipality of Sant Joan, after a large pine tree fell on him while he was doing logging work on his farm, located in the area of sa Cala.
The event occurred approximately one kilometer from the Camp d’Aprenentatge. The alarm was triggered when a neighbor noticed her absence at the school bus stop, where she used to pick up one of her two children. Upon arriving at the house, the neighbor found the man’s lifeless body, trapped by the tree trunk, and immediately notified the emergency services.
The Judicial Police of the Guardia Civil has taken charge of the removal of the body, while the exact causes of the accident, which everything indicates was fortuitous and related to a private forestry task, are being investigated.
Christmas lighting suspended
After hearing the news, the City Council of Sant Joan has decided to suspend the act of lighting the Christmas lights, scheduled for Friday afternoon, as a sign of mourning. The Consistory has sent its condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
“We want to accompany his loved ones in this moment of deep sorrow,” said municipal sources. The event has left the small community in the north of the island, where the deceased resided with his family and was a much-loved figure, dismayed.
