The Ibiza Town Hall has approved to impose a fine of 1,500 euros, the highest amount foreseen for serious infractions, to the owner of a potentially dangerous dog that last August attacked and killed a Yorkshire in Navarra street in ses Figueretes.
According to the municipal ordinance, the animal had to be on a leash and muzzled, as required by current regulations. This, according to IB3, did not happen, which led to the sanction.
The consistory points out that the owner was walking the dog without a backpack or leash, a prohibited conduct which, according to the sanctioning file, allowed the animal to pounce on the Yorkshire, causing its death. The municipal regulation establishes serious penalties ranging from 300 to 1,500 euros, so the City Council has applied the higher range.
Potentially dangerous dogs
From the municipal administration it is detailed that in Ibiza there are 700 potentially dangerous dogs registered, within a total census of 14,600 dogs. This proportion, according to data from the consistory, reflects the significant presence of this type of animals in the municipality. The official registry can be consulted in the municipal sections dedicated to pets.
Municipal sources remind that the ordinance seeks to avoid situations like the one that occurred in ses Figueretes, by requiring specific control measures for breeds classified as dangerous. The City Council insists on the importance of complying with these obligations to ensure coexistence and safety on public roads.
