The Directorate General of Ports and Maritime Transport, under the Ministry of the Sea and Water Cycle, has agreed with several nautical schools in Ibiza and the rest of the archipelago the examination schedule for recreational qualifications for the year 2026.
The decision was reached during the annual meeting held this week in Palma, with the presence of the general director Toni Mercant and representatives of schools from all the islands, including several nautical training centers in Ibiza as Islander Sea Training School, E.N. Posidonia, Zulumar, One Day Charter or Club Náutico Sant Antoni – Es Nàutic.
“These meetings are essential to maintain a rigorous and updated system of qualifications, aligned with the needs of the sector,” said the Regional Ministry.
During the meeting, key aspects such as the logistical coordination of the tests, the resolution of technical issues raised by the centers and the establishment of the four official exams scheduled for 2026 were discussed.
High demand in 2024
From the Govern highlighted the volume of activity involved in the management of nautical qualifications, with a total of 2,960 applications for theoretical examination in 2024: 927 in April, 730 in June, 429 in September and 874 in December.
In addition, 4,232 issuances and renewals of certificates and cards were processed, most of them corresponding to the Recreational Boat Skipper (PER), with 3,017 certificates issued, followed by yacht skipper (507), yacht captain (264), basic qualification (442) and jet ski (2).
This high demand is evidence of the growing interest in recreational boating, a sector in which Ibiza has a strong presence both for professional activity and specialized tourism.
The Directorate General appreciated the involvement of Ibizan schools such as Islander, Zulumar, Posidonia, Stella Maris, One Day Charter and Es Nautic, which are an active part of the Balearic nautical training system.
The Government stressed that this collaboration ensures an efficient, safe and high level of service, while promoting a responsible maritime culture, committed to safety at sea and the sustainable use of nautical and port resources of the Balearic Islands.
