Woman stabbed to death by her ex-partner in Costitx despite a restraining order against him

A woman of about 35 years old remains in serious condition at the University Hospital Son Espases, where she was rushed after being stabbed by her ex-partner during the early hours of Sunday morning on a farm located on the outskirts of Costitx. The aggressor had a restraining order in force.

According to Crónica Balear and confirmed by Europa Press, the attack occurred around 05.12 hours, when the woman was leaving a party held at a house in Pla de Mallorca. At that moment she was surprised by the man, who had gone to the property and assaulted her with a knife.

Due to the injuries, the victim was evacuated to Son Espases, where he remains hospitalized in serious condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

After the aggression in the framework of the Viogen system, the man self-injured himself, for which he was transferred to the Hospital of Inca. He is in a minor condition and remains in the custody of the Guardia Civil, as confirmed by official sources.

Costitx and Alaró call for rallies of repulse

The town councils of Costitx and Alaró -the town where the alleged aggressor resides- have called this Sunday acts of rejection after the aggression.

• Costitx: 19.00 hours, in front of the Town Hall.

• Alaró: 20.00 hours, also in front of the town hall.

Both councils have expressed their categorical condemnation of gender violence and have refused to “remain silent in the face of such serious acts”.

In their communiqués, they stress that “gender violence is a scourge that continues to strike our society” and call for denunciation, visibility and collective commitment to move towards a life free of violence. In addition, they assure that they will continue to fight firmly to guarantee the safety, dignity and freedom of all women.

The Balearic Government condemns the aggression “with absolute categoricalness”.

The president of the Govern, Marga Prohens, has expressed her condemnation “with absolute rotundity” for this “new case of male violence“, as published in X (formerly Twitter).

Prohens said that all IBDona services are deployed and available to the victim and her environment. He also conveyed his “affection and support to the family and friends”.
