The president of the Govern, Marga Prohens, has presented this Monday the Public Housing Shock Plan projected for 2026, with an investment of nearly 228 million euros to build more than 1,200 social housing apartments.
As announced, a total of a total of 613 homes are planned in Mallorca, 248 in Menorca, 292 in Ibiza and 60 in Formentera, 292 in Ibiza and 60 in Formentera.
Last week, La Voz de Ibiza advanced Ibavi’s plans for the pitiusa. “It is expected that the works of most of the promotions can begin in 2026,” the Government had estimated.
“2026 will be the year in which more public housing will begin to be built simultaneously in the history of the Balearic Islands. There has never been so much public housing as with this Government,” said the president.
VPO projects for Ibiza
The Government has in its plans about 1,000 homes for Ibiza, although those processed by the Balearic Housing Institute are about 300 public developments in six promotions.
The five new developments of the Institute include, on the one hand, four developments in Ibiza – on two plots of land owned by the Ibiza Town Hall – and, on the other hand, the five new developments of the Institute: four in two plots owned by the Ibiza Town Hall and on two plots ceded by the Consell Insularde Ibiza – and the new 18-home development in Sant Antoni de Portmany on a site purchased by IBAVI from SAREB.
At the end of last month, the Vila de Vila City Council ceded two municipal plots of land to Ibavi gave two municipal plots of land to Ibavi to build more than 200 homes for rent at an appraised price.
These plots are located at Sant Francesc de ses Salines, 15, and Canàries, 16.
And a sixth, at Ca n’Escandellpending the urbanization process by the state-owned public company SEPES, in which Ibavi plans to build 170 homes, a part of the development (the state-owned company plans the rest, up to the total of 532 homes planned for Ca n’Escandell).
“As for Ibavi, on the island of Ibiza will increase its park, from the current 174 to 466 (an increase of 292 of Ibavi’s own construction),” explained the Government.
In any case, they are optimistic that “these figures will increase as progress is made in the talks with the municipalities”.
More homes
Meanwhile, the program Construir per Llogarprogram, there are more than 500 homes in planning: more than 200 in Ibiza through the call of the Govern and about 300 in Santa Eulària, according to forecasts of the City Council.
In addition, there are also fifteen or so price-limited housing units due to the conversion of premises, one of the measures of the Law 3/2024, and “other new housing projects that are being planned,” the government explains.
The VPOs of Formentera
In Formentera, Ibavi is processing the largest housing development on the island, with a minimum of 60 homes, on a site in Es Pujols ceded by the Consell de Formentera.
This project quadruples the current number (14) of IBAVI public housing units in Formentera.
