The new Ses Nou Rodades Intangible Cultural Heritage Center in Ibiza is expected to be operational before the end of 2026.
The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Jaume Bauzà, along with the president of the Consell de Ibiza, Vicent Marí, and the mayor of Sant Antoni, Marcos Serra, attended the ceremony of laying the foundation stone of the future Center for Intangible Cultural Heritage Ses Nou Rodades, a project promoted by the Consell that was born with the aim of providing the island with a stable space for the study, dissemination and coexistence of the colles de ball, popular culture and traditional crafts.
As reported by the Regional Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports, the project has a total budget of 8.2 million euros and is partially funded by the Sustainable Tourism Tax (ITS), which will contribute 1.89 million euros in this first phase.
This investment, emphasizes the Govern, reaffirms the commitment of the Executive with a model of sustainable cultural development that contributes to improve the patrimonial offer of the archipelago.
The new facility will be located in the surroundings of the Hippodrome of Sant Rafel and will allow to concentrate in the same space training activities, creation, exchange and cultural dissemination. In addition, it will become a meeting point for groups from other geographies, artisans and entities linked to folklore and Ibizan tradition, with the aim of strengthening the cultural identity of the island and promoting citizen participation.
During the ceremony, the councilor stressed that Ses Nou Rodades symbolizes the importance of caring for and projecting cultural heritage into the future. “Thanks to the sustainable tourism tax, we make possible an infrastructure that will benefit both residents and visitors, reinforcing the cultural richness that makes our islands unique,” he said.
