The Consell Insular de Formentera, through the Area of Heritage, has presented the exhibition “50 images.100 years”a project created to commemorate the centenary of the birth of the historian and arxiver eivissenc Joan Marí Cardona. The exhibition, installed at the Centre Antoni Tur Gabrielet, will remain open to the public until January 10.
The initiative is part of the events organized jointly by the island councils of Formentera and Eivissa in the framework of the Any Joan Marí Cardona 1925-2025, a program designed to remember and disseminate the intellectual and human legacy of who is considered an essential figure in the research and preservation of the cultural and historical heritage of the Pitiüses.
A visual tour through the life of the historian
The exhibition brings together a selection of 50 photographs that allow us to travel through different stages of the life and career of Joan Marí Cardona. The images show his close ties with research, dissemination and defense of the heritage of the island, areas in which he left a decisive mark for future generations.
The project was born with the vocation of bringing his memory closer to citizens of all ages, and to reinforce the central role he played in the construction and preservation of local cultural identity.

A particularly significant reissue
The recovery of El llarg camí del pa a Formentera has an outstanding value within the centenary. First published in 1993 and out of print for years, this study on the history of bread on the island is once again available thanks to Publicacions de l’Abadia de Montserrat, within the collection “Formentera en Estudi”. In this way, the citizenship recovers a fundamental work for the local historical and patrimonial research, contributing to keep alive the knowledge generated by Marí Cardona.
All program activities are free admission and seek to involve both residents and visitors in this collective tribute to one of the great disseminators of the memory and identity of the Pitiüses.
