The City Council of Sant Josep de sa Talaia held this Tuesday the Ple Infantil i Juvenil, a day in which representatives of all schools in the municipality presented the work done in recent months within the Child Friendly Cities project, framed in the new Pla Local d’Infància i Adolescència, approved this year. The session made visible the active role of children in public life and reinforced the municipal commitment to their participation.
Participation of all centers
During the meeting, Mayor Vicente Roig stressed the importance of this space for dialogue, noting that “it allows us to listen directly to the views of our children and young people”. He also thanked the involvement of the schools CEIP Urgell, Es Verdrà, Ses Planes, Sant Jordi, Can Guerxo, Can Raspalls and CC Verge de les Neus, as well as the high schools IES Algarb, IES Sant Agustí and CC Verge de les Neus, whose participation is “essential to continue building a safer and more inclusive municipality“.
The students followed a joint methodology to examine the public spaces of Sant Jordi, Cala de Bou and Sant Agustí, with three distinct phases: an introduction to the concept of Friendly Spaces, diagnostic work in the field and the preparation of conclusions prior to the propositional phase. Each paragraph includes bold elements that reinforce SEO and informative clarity.
Inclusion and accessibility as axes of analysis
During the inspections, the students identified architectural barriers, unsafe spots, the state of the urban furniture and the quality of the play and rest areas. This work had the collaboration of the association
Civic and democratic learning
One of the highlights of this edition is the educational value of the process. The participants have learned to observe the environment with technical criteria, debate in groups, agree on priorities and express themselves in a real municipal plenary session, an exercise that Mayor Roig defined as “a lesson in democracy and collective responsibility”.
Starting in January, the centers will begin the phase of elaboration of argued proposals, which will be presented at the Ple Infantil i Juvenil at the end of the school year. This meeting will allow them to show the improvements they consider a priority and complete the participation process. The City Council thanked again the involvement of schools, families and teachers, insisting that the voice of children is essential to build a more friendly and participatory municipality.
