The President of the Govern, Marga Prohenshas asked the Spanish Government for more means and more personnel for the National Police in the archipelago.
This is what he claimed at the XII National Congress of the Unified Police Union (SUP) on Tuesday, in which he defended that the Govern “has complied”, for example, with the creation of the regional tax deduction for the National Police and the Civil Guard.
“From the Balearic Islands we will continue to strongly claim that we must protect those who protect us, take care of those who take care of everyone,” said Prohens, stressing that her Executive will continue to demand material and human resources, more presence, more resources and more support.
On the migration issue, he has reproached those who “call the Government unsupportive” when the Balearic Islands hosts more than 720 unaccompanied migrant minors, with centers at 1,000 percent of their capacity.
“That is why I sent a letter to the President of the Government formally requesting the activation of Frontex and, of course, to strengthen our security forces and corps in the Balearic Islands, to cover these more than 400 vacancies to protect our borders and combat mafias,” he said.
The president insisted that the migration policy cannot be based on managing the reception “in distribution quotas”, but must be based on the protection of borders and the fight against mafias.
Faced with this situation, Prohens has put in value the appointment last July of the sub-inspector Manuel Pavón as the new director general of Immigration. “Who better than a national police officer who has worked in the field,” he said, while criticizing the commotion caused by his appointment.
