Warning for strong wind and swell in Ibiza and Formentera this Thursday

biza and Formentera will be this Thursday December 5 under yellow warning for wind and coastal phenomena, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). The alert for strong gusts of wind from the west, which could reach 70 kilometers per hour, will be active between 08.00 and 20.00 hours. As for the risk of waves, west wind is expected between 50 and 60 km / h (force 7) and waves between two and three meters, which has led to activate the warning between 08.00 on Thursday and 06.00 on Friday.

More than 20 provinces on alert throughout Spain

The warning for the Pitiusas is part of a day in which 23 Spanish provinces and the autonomous city of Melilla will be under weather warnings for snow, wind and strong waves, with special incidence in mountainous areas of the northern peninsular and east of the southern plateau.

Regarding wind, in addition to Ibiza and Formentera, other provinces with yellow warning will be Almería, Granada, Albacete, Cantabria (coast), Tarragona, Murcia (northwest), Vizcaya, Alicante, Castellón and Valencia. As for coastal phenomena, the warning is also activated in Pontevedra, Melilla, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas, with more intense alert levels – orange – in Asturias, Cantabria, A Coruña, Lugo, Guipúzcoa and Vizcaya.

The forecast for Thursday points to very strong gusts of wind in the south of the Balearic Islands, the Cantabrian Sea, Alboran and large areas of the southeast and the eastern coast of the peninsula, with likely peaks of up to 90 km / h on the coasts of Cantabria and Vizcaya.

Forecast: showers, wind and lower temperatures

During the day on Thursday is expected the passage of several fronts that will leave cloudy or overcast skies in much of the country, as well as widespread rainfall. Although in Ibiza and Formentera the rains will be unlikely and, if they occur, occasional, in other areas such as Galicia, the western Pyrenees and the Cantabrian area, rainfall could be persistent, heavy and accompanied by storms or hail.

Snowfall is also expected in the main mountain systems of the north and southeast of the peninsula, with heights between 1,000 and 1,800 meters depending on the area.

Rising temperatures in the Balearic Islands

Regarding temperatures, minimum temperatures will increase in the Balearic Islands, while maximum temperatures will remain unchanged. The west wind will blow strongly, especially in the south of the Balearic archipelago, with very strong gusts that could hinder navigation and generate incidents in coastal areas.
