The Balearic Port Authority (APB) has focused on strengthening institutional collaboration with Formentera during the last meeting of the Navigation and Port Council of the port of La Savina. At this meeting, held this week, the APB announced its intention to create a joint commission with the Consell de Formentera to review and update the port’s Special Plan, the document that should guide the urban, functional and environmental future of the island’s main maritime infrastructure.
The commission, which is expected to be formally established in 2026, will allow the port to work in a coordinated manner in the planning of the port and adapt it to the current needs of mobility, sustainability and management of port space. The APB stresses that this instrument will be key to defining uses, resolving incompatibilities and aligning port actions with Formentera’s territorial strategy.
The announcement is part of the presentation of the 2025-2030 investment plan, which includes more than 9.4 million euros to modernize La Savina. Among the planned actions are the improvement of accessibility, the renovation of Ro-Ro ramps, the reform of the harbormaster’s office and the updating of fenders to increase safety in maneuvers. Likewise, the APB is making progress in its strategic project of a single marina, an integral management model that seeks to eliminate administrative duplications and improve the efficiency and quality of services.
The collaboration with the Consell de Formentera has already borne its first fruits with the agreement for regulated parking in the port area, in force since this year, which aims to organize the access of residents and visitors. In addition, the processing of the agreement with the Ministry of the Interior to install an advanced surveillance system in the lighthouse of La Mola continues, reinforcing maritime security.
In parallel, the APB is promoting new environmental ordinances, the progressive decarbonization of the Ibiza-La Savina line and technological projects such as Posidonia Operations V2, the digitization of maritime signals and improvements in cybersecurity. With the future joint commission, all these lines of action can be integrated into a joint planning, aimed at consolidating a more efficient, sustainable and aligned with the needs of Formentera port.
