The Port Authority of the Balearic Islands (APB) clarified during the Navigation and Port Council held this Thursday that the subway parking included in the Special Plan of the port of Ibiza will go ahead, despite the fact that the DANA showed that the area is floodable and that one of the allegations presented during the public exhibition expressly warned of this risk.
When asked by La Voz de Ibiza, the port agency acknowledged that the rainfall episode made it clear that the area planned for the parking lot could be flooded, but ruled out modifying the action. The APB considers that the problem can be solved by means of an adequate technical design: “The DANA has shown that it is a floodable area, but it is a solvable problem with drainage infrastructures. The project should incorporate these improvements, but there are no plans to remove the subway parking.”
The allegation referred to by La Voz de Ibiza warned that, given the flooding of the area and the depth of the projected parking lot, its execution could be incompatible with safety and sustainability criteria. The text requested a review of the planning to avoid risks and demanded a more detailed assessment of the hydraulic behavior in extreme episodes.
Despite this, the APB maintains the part of the plan without substantial changes and argues that the technical solutions allow preserving the parking within the planned development.
The decision is part of the final phase of the development of the Special Plan for the port of Ibiza, which the APB expects to complete in 2026, once the municipal prescriptions have been integrated and the allegations have been resolved.
