Adriana Rissi brings Paralympic sport closer to CEIP Can Coix students

The meeting, held at the IES Quartó de Portmany, brought together 88 students in a training and practical day.

The 5th edition of the DIE Educational Program Inclusive Sport at School has celebrated this Thursday a new awareness day with the students of CEIP Can Coix, in a meeting that has counted with the participation of the high-level athlete Adriana Rissi García, badminton player and a reference of inclusive sport in Spain.

The activity began at 9.30 am in the theater room of IES Quartó de Portmany, where Rissi, 22 years old, born in Madrid and with severe bilateral hearing loss, shared her personal and sporting history with 88 students of 4th, 5th and 6th grade of Primary School.

During the talk, the athlete recounted her beginnings in badminton, the difficulties arising from her hearing impairment and the values that have guided her career, such as perseverance, self-improvement and daily effort. The students actively participated in a round of questions that generated a close and motivating dialogue.

From words to action

After the theoretical part, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., the practical session took place in the outdoor courts of the center with four inclusive sports workshops: soccer with visual impairment, sitting volleyball with physical disability, goalball and adapted athletics.

Divided into four groups, the students were able to experience different Paralympic modalities and understand, in an experiential way, the challenges and adaptations required in each of them. Adriana Rissi was in charge of leading the seated volleyball workshop, while the rest of the activities were coordinated by the DIE program technicians, Physical Education teachers, tutors and the Sports Coordinator of the Consell de Eivissa.
