The fourth deputy mayor of the City Council of Ibiza, Jordi Grivé; the director of CEIP La Consolación, and the head of Aqualia in the municipality, David Bernaus, presented the award to Martín Mauri Hernández, a student of CEIP La Consolación and finalist in the Children’s Digital Educational Drawing Competition organized by Aqualia under the slogan “Mission RegenerACCIÓN”.
The contest, developed through the platform www.aqualiayods6.com, was aimed at children in 3rd and 4th grade of primary school, to whom the rules and instructions for participation were sent. More than 9,300 schoolchildren from all over the country took part in this edition, and Martín Mauri Hernández was selected as one of the finalists.
As recognition, the student received a gift card worth 30 euros for sports equipment, as well as a backpack and a reusable water bottle. In this year’s contest, the young artists had to demonstrate their creativity to stop the advance of desertification and move on to “RegenerACTION”, recovering the damaged areas thanks to a correct management of the integral water cycle.
The initiative is part of the 23rd edition of Aqualia’s Digital Educational Contest for Children, which this year was attended by students from the municipalities in which the company operates. In total, the competition has offered 4,583 hours of digital training in sustainability, consolidating its position as a benchmark educational project since its launch in 2002.
Since its inception, the contest has raised awareness among more than 300,000 young people about the importance of efficient water management and the effort involved in making drinking water available just by turning on the tap. The educational project aims to raise awareness among new generations about how water reaches their homes, the need to consume it responsibly, and the processes of purification and reuse before returning it to the natural environment.
The competition is part of a series of initiatives that Aqualia is developing with schools, colleges and universities to raise awareness of the different stages of the water cycle and promote a more sustainable and responsible use of this essential resource.
