The crossing of Jesus has reopened to traffic in Ibiza after being closed for almost a month for the rehabilitation works of the road surface of the EI-100 road. The cut, which began on November 24, was initially scheduled for two weeks, but has been extended for 25 days.
The closure affected the first section of the crossing, between the beginning of the road and Gavina street, one of the main accesses to the urban center of Jesús. During this period, traffic was restricted to residents and businesses, with permanent controls, while the rest of the vehicles had to use the new Jesús bypass as an alternative route.
Longer closing than announced
The extension of the deadline generated daily traffic problems, especially at peak hours, as it is a key road in the connection between Ibiza and Santa Eulària, as reported by Periódico de Ibiza.
The closure was part of the works are part of the rehabilitation project of the road surface of the road Jesus-Santa Eulària (EI-100), promoted by the Consell Insular and awarded to the company Islasfalto. This action is part of a plan initiated last October that includes the improvement of a total of 11.5 kilometers of road, from the EI-100 to Cala Llonga.
The overall project has an execution period of six months and a budget of 4.6 million euros. With the reopening of the crossing, traffic is back to normal in an infrastructure that had already suffered significant delays in its original construction.
