The Astronomical Association of Ibiza (AAE) will bid farewell to the year 2025 with an open day at the Puig des Molins Observatory, an event open to all citizens that will take place on Saturday December 27 from 21:00 hours. The activity does not require prior registration and will allow observing the Moon, as well as the planets Saturn and Jupiter, as reported by the entity through its social networks.
During the day, the observatory’s main telescope will be used, which will be oriented to one of the two planets visible that night, while other telescopes installed at the access to the site will be used to observe the Moon, especially the craters that characterize its surface.
The AAE explains that Saturn will begin to be low to the west at that time, so it will only be visible for about an hour, while Jupiter will appear in the east. The Moon, located in the west quadrant, will be in the crescent phase, with half of its surface illuminated.
This will be the last public activity organized by the Agrupación Astronómica de Ibiza in a year marked by an intense scientific and informative work. Throughout 2025, the entity has developed observations for organized groups at the Puig des Molins Observatory, high-resolution astrophotography works with the Cala d’Hort Telescope, as well as educational activities and conferences.
A 2026 in a big way
The day also serves as a prelude to a very special year for the AAE, which will celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2026. On the occasion of this anniversary, the group has already scheduled an extensive agenda of events that will include a photo exhibition at Sa Nostra Sala, in Aragon Street in Vila, the publication of a commemorative book, conferences, new observation days and preparations for the solar eclipse scheduled for August 12.
