Iago Negueruela is in the focus of allegations of “harassment and machismo”. It is that, to the internal complaint of a militant of the Socialist Party -which was dismissed by the PSIB-PSOE leadership in different instances-, now it was known a simulated situation denounced at the time by the Ibizan deputy of VOX, Patricia de las Heras, and that has not progressed either.
During the commission of inquiry into the Koldo case Koldo case, Las Heras had pointed out that Negueruela “followed me around the facilities of this Parliament to rebuke me“.
In that sense, he said that “I made it clear to him that he was rude. I am curious to know if he only did it with me or if he also does it with men”.
Faced with the socialist leader’s face of ignorance, Patria de las Heras replied: “Don’t tell me you don’t know what I’m talking about? There were witnesses in front of you, Mr. Iago Negueruela”.
In subsequent statements to the press, the Vox deputy added that this situation was not the first, although she said that on that occasion “he rebuked me much more. He rebuked me in the corridors of the Parliament”.
In this sense, she said that, after denouncing this publicly, Negueruela “grabbedherfrom behind and told me that what happens outside the Parliament stays outside the Parliament“.
“When they are the ones who insult women, or promote political violence against women, absolutely nothing happens or it has to be silenced. And yet, they talk about feminism and promote peace speeches,” said Patricia de las Heras in her speech.
The claim of Marga Prohens herself
This situation reached the Plenary of the Parliament in June 2024. There the president of the Govern, Marga Prohens, denounced the sexist attitudes of Negueruela.
“These are the brave ones, these are the feminists, these are the ones with the 8M banner that said ‘women don’t cry’. Well, yes. Sometimes we cry because we are fed up with disrespect, machismo and abuses in this Parliament,” she said.
Complaint filed
Francina Armengol ‘s strongman and who was elected last May as secretary general of the PSOE of Palma without competition in the primaries, has seen his internal position shaken after the appearance of a first complaint made by an activist.
According to the testimony contained in the complaint, a local leader of the Palma Ponent group, one of the sectors where Negueruela’s management has been most questioned, held a meeting on May 26 with the then newly proclaimed secretary general of the PSOE of Palma.
During that meeting, the leader would have asked her not to opt for re-election as secretary general of his group. In exchange, he would have offered her the presidency of the Political Council of Palma and a position in the municipal socialist executive.
The militant assures that she rejected the proposal and that, after her refusal, the conversation turned into an attitude that she describes as “threatening and aggressive”.
In his letter he claims to have suffered “repeated and deliberate behavior of a hostile and derogatory nature“, allegedly contrary to the ethical code of the PSOE and “allegedly constituting harassment”.
Although the complainant admits that there was no shouting during the encounter, she maintains that both the tone of Negueruela’s speech and body language were sufficiently intimidating to provoke an anxiety attack that required emergency room attention. Since then, he claims, he has been undergoing psychiatric treatment.
However, the PSOE leadership has turned a deaf ear. The Guarantees Committee decided last week to shelve the internal complaint.
Previously, the complaint had been evaluated by three instances of the party at the insular and autonomic level, after which it was archived as there was no evidence of facts that constituted a sanction or a fault.
The injured party had appealed the file to Ferraz, which has dismissed it again.
“Absolutely quiet.”
In statements to the media, Negueruela said he was“absolutely calm” and expressed his respect and confidence in his party. “I respect the internal processes,” he stressed.
“I believe that in democracy not everything goes and that we must accept the results of the congressional processes, whether we like them or not,” he said, adding that, in his opinion, the accusation is “taken out of context”.
