Ibiza wants to fly again. La Cursa Patrimoni del Ayuntamiento de Ibiza faces its next edition with a major challenge: to turn the capital of Ibiza into the scene of a new national record. And the protagonist of that challenge will be, once again, María Forero.
The Huelva-born athlete, reigning European U23 cross country champion, has chosen Ibiza to attempt a historic double assault on March 29, 2026. Not only will she try to lower her own Spanish U23 10K road record (32:55), but she will also try to beat the absolute record, currently held by Carla Gallardo (31:11).
A champion who returns to Ibiza to make history
María Forero returns to the Cursa Patrimoni del Ayuntamiento de Ibiza as title defender and with renewed determination. She already knows what it’s like to win in this emblematic race, considered one of the fastest homologated 10K in the country.
In the last edition she won in a race marked by the strong wind. Only the adverse weather conditions prevented the Huelva-born runner from lowering her own U23 record and seriously endangering the record of the race, held by Laura Luengo (32:45). One year later, Forero will try to redeem herself and, if the weather is good, to sign a historic morning for national athletics.
In the best moment of his sports career
The challenge comes at an unbeatable moment for the Andalusian athlete. Just a few days ago, María Forero was proclaimed European U23 cross champion in Lagoa (Portugal), confirming the constant progression of one of the great promises of Spanish athletics.
His track record also includes a European U23 title in 5,000 meters on the track and another continental gold in cross country U20, credentials that reinforce his choice of Ibiza as the ideal place to try to break the wall of the 10K road race.
A fast circuit and an event with national projection
The route of the Cursa Patrimoni remains unchanged, starting at Avenida de España and finishing at Paseo de Vara del Rey, in a one-lap route that summarizes the essence of the city: the surroundings of Dalt Vila, the promenade and the urban heart of Ibiza. Ten kilometers completely flat, with few turns and designed to run fast.
The event will once again bring together some of the best national athletes in the most emblematic sporting event in the city. In addition to the 10K homologated, the event will include the 5 kilometers of the Toni Costa Balanzat and free children’s races, with the aim of encouraging the practice of sports among the youngest.
The Cursa Patrimoni of the City Council of Ibiza is part of the Circuit of World Heritage Cities, composed of 15 races held in the 15 Spanish cities with this recognition, an initiative that combines sport and enhancement of historical heritage.
Registration for the Cursa Patrimoni del Ayuntamiento de Eivissa/Ibiza is now available on the official website of the event: www.10kcursapatrimoni.com.
