IBICINE, the Ibiza Film Festival, kicks off its ninth edition this Wednesday, January 7th at the Can Ventosa Cultural Center with the short films session Identities in focuswhich opens the Official Short Film Section.
The session brings together seven works that address issues such as gender, dissidence, desire, adolescence, family, violence and the visibility of identities usually relegated from the audiovisual narrative, from contemporary perspectives.
An opening session with its own identity
Conceived as a thematic proposal, Identidades a enfoque articulates a program that focuses on emotional, social and generational conflicts, becoming a letter of introduction to the artistic approach of this ninth edition of the festival.
Seven short films in the Official Selection
The titles that make up the program are Sex at 70by Vanesa Romero; Quitting Smokingby Javier Rubio; Pipiolosby Daniel Sánchez Arévalo; Angieby Josep Varó; Cóleraby José Luis Lázaro; Run, Adelaby Alba Pino; and YOU DON’T.by Marta Albert González, who will be present at the screening to participate in the subsequent cineforum.
The session will also include the participation of renowned performers such as Mamen García, Lara Martorell and Luis Bermejo.
Three short films in the running for the Goya Awards 2026
Three of the projected works –Cholera, Sex at 70 y Pipiolos– are currently in the running for the 2026 Goya Awards, according to the festival’s organizers, reinforcing the outstanding nature of this inaugural session.
After the screening, the audience will be able to participate in a cineforum, conceived as an open dialogue space, with the participation of Marta Albert González, director of YOUR NO.
Institutional support and collaborators
The organization has thanked the support of the institutions, sponsors and collaborators that make this ninth edition of the festival possible, especially Ibiza Travel, the Consell d’Eivissa, Eivissacultural.es and Adlib Ibiza; the Ajuntament d’Eivissa and Can Ventosa, headquarters of the Official Short Film Section SOC9; as well as the town councils of Santa Eulària des Riu and Sant Antoni de Portmany, where the Official Feature Film Section will be held.
The festival has also highlighted the collaboration of Grupo Mambo, which will host the filmmakers during the screenings to be held between January and April at Hostal La Torre.
