What started as an idyllic beginning of the year in the Canary Islands has been unexpectedly cut short for Sara Carbonero. The journalist, who was enjoying a few days of disconnection in her personal refuge in La Graciosa, had to be transferred and urgently admitted to a hospital in Lanzarote on January 5, coinciding with the Epiphany Eve.
A health setback in the middle of the vacations
After saying goodbye to 2025 surrounded by her most intimate circle (including her close friend Isabel Jiménez and her current partner, Jota Cabrera), the presenter began to experience physical discomfort on January 2. As reported by Semana magazine, the situation required immediate medical attention and the health team decided to admit her immediately for the pertinent evaluations.
Although the exact reason for her hospitalization has not been officially revealed, the news has generated inevitable concern. Those closest to her have asked for “maximum prudence and respect”, avoiding speculation and requesting that the journalist’s time and privacy be respected while doctors analyze her evolution.
Pending a possible transfer
Due to the health infrastructure of the islands, Sara’s inner circle does not rule out that a transfer to a hospital with greater resources outside Lanzarote may be necessary. However, this decision is subject to how she responds to treatment in the coming hours. It should be noted that these transfers between islands or to the mainland usually require specialized air transport.
On the other hand, it has been confirmed that her ex-husband, Iker Casillas, is fully aware of the situation. The ex-football player is in constant and fluid contact with the hospital and with those who accompany Sara, following very closely every news about her improvement.
Your health history in recent years
The discretion surrounding this admission is largely due to the medical history of the journalist, who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2019. Although she herself had recently been optimistic and recovered, her health has gone through bumps in recent years, including an emergency intervention in 2022 and a precautionary admission in the summer of 2024.
Despite these challenges, Sara has always maintained an exemplary attitude: in fact, just hours before this setback, she shared on her social networks a message full of hope for this 2026: “My wish is always the same: lots of health and lots of love for everyone,” she wrote, stressing the importance of having courage to face the obstacles that life presents.
