The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) has informed that the company Nestlé has extended, as a preventive measure, the recall of new products and batches of infant formula milk, following the health alert issued last December 12 for the possible presence of Bacillus cereus in the product NIDINA 1.
As explained by the AESAN, the information has been transferred to the competent authorities of the autonomous communities through the Coordinated System for the Rapid Exchange of Information (SCIRI), in order to ensure the effective withdrawal of the affected products from the marketing channels. The agency recommends consumers not to use or consume the products included in the alert.
To facilitate the identification of the affected articles, Nestlé has enabled a specific search engine on its website, where both the products and the recalled batches can be consulted, accessible on the company’s official website. The company insists on the importance of checking this information before consuming any product of the ranges involved.
On the same website, Nestlé explains that cereulide is a toxin produced by certain strains of the microorganism Bacillus cereus and can cause foodborne illness, with symptoms such as severe vomiting and diarrhea, especially worrisome in infants.
The affected batches correspond to specific products of the brands Alfamino, Alfamino Junior, NAN AR, NAN Total Confort 1 and 2, NAN Optipro 1 (in 800 grams, 1,200 grams and 500 milliliters formats), NAN Supremepro 1 and 2, Nativa 1, Nidina 1, Nidina Confort Digest and Nidina Confort Digest 1.
The company has stressed that the batches not included in the recall can be consumed safely, like the rest of its infant formula milks. Both Nestlé and AESAN have insisted that the recall is a precautionary measure and that active surveillance is being maintained to protect the health of the infant population.
