The platform Plastic Free: Alianza Residuo Cero Ibiza and Formentera is preparing a study trip for 2026 with the aim of learning first-hand about the experiences of other island territories that have managed to significantly reduce their waste and transfer these measures to the Pitiusas.
According to the entity, the trip will take place within the framework of the project “Cap a unes illes residu zero” and destinations such as Krk (Croatia) and Sardinia (Italy) are being analyzed, which are referents for their progress towards more sustainable management models. The visit will be attended by entities of the alliance and several public institutions have shown interest in joining the learning process.
A technical document with recommendations for the Pitiusas islands
The aim of the initiative is to identify which measures have worked, under what conditions and with what limitations, and then draw up a document of technical recommendations that will allow the most useful solutions to be applied to the reality of Ibiza and Formentera.
The project is promoted by (Ma) Laboratorio de Transformación Sostenible in collaboration with Alianza Residuo Cero, and is funded by Fundación BeMed and IbizaPreservation.

Connection with the Island Shock Plan
The alliance frames this action in its role as a space for technical coordination and dialogue with the administrations on waste prevention and reduction. In this sense, it has also expressed its willingness to collaborate with the “Plan de Choque insular de reducción de residuos”, announced by the institutions in the last Consell d’Alcaldes, contributing its experience and technical criteria.
Balance of impact: 240 tons managed
Although the main focus is on the work planned for 2026, the alliance has added for the first time collective impact data for 2025, including the management of 240 tons of bulky and textile waste in the Pitiusas Islands, in addition to 3.8 tons collected in natural areas, more than 2,000 single-use cups avoided and the participation of hundreds of people in cleanups and awareness actions.
The Zero Waste Alliance is working towards the goal of making Ibiza and Formentera one of the top ten zero waste islands in the Mediterranean by 2030, through coordination between entities, technical learning and institutional collaboration.
