The Health Service of the Balearic Islands (IB-Salut) has tendered a contract worth 72,479 euros (VAT included) for non-emergency medical transport technicians to obtain the type C driving license, after the controversy over the new ambulances put into operation and that exceed 3,500 kilos.
However, this training will only be given in Mallorca, excluding professionals from Ibiza and Formentera in this first instance. . This is confirmed by the Technical Specifications to which has had access La Voz de Ibizawhere it is detailed that the course is exclusively intended for personnel with permanent or indefinite position of the non-urgent sanitary transport in Mallorca.ç
As stipulated in the technical document, up to 50 students will be trained to obtain a class C driving license, which is required to drive heavy sanitary vehicles weighing more than 3,500 kg.

The Conselleria de Salud has explained to this media that “the tender has been proposed with this contractual mode for Mallorca due to the volume. For Ibiza it will be carried out through another administrative contractual mode, taking into account that the economic volume will be different”.
According to what they have advanced, “they are drafting” the specifications and“it will not take too long”.
For his part, Vicente Nadal, delegate of UGT, said that “we hope that the agreement and the subsidy is both for the workers of Ibiza and Formentera and for those of Menorca. And that no worker is excluded”.

Deployment of the controversial new fleet of urgent and scheduled ambulances in Ibiza and Formentera
“There are 40 peoplehere who don’t have a C license,” he has claimed.
Ibiza drivers overloaded
The Govern excludes Ibiza in this first instance despite the fact that the UGT had warned of an imminent chaos in the scheduled transfer of people with reduced mobility due to the shortage of drivers. imminent chaos in the programmed transfer of people with reduced mobility due to the shortage of drivers to drive the units that to drive the units that exceed 3,500 kilos.
As advanced by La Voz de Ibizathe Govern has made an unforgivable error in the bidding documents, which was the cause of the failed contract of ambulances.
It is that most of the new vehicles exceeded the 4,000 kilos of weight, which forced the Department of Health to dismantle part of these ambulances for scheduled medical transport. In contrast, urgent transport ambulances have not been affected.
In Ibiza, only 7 drivers have the C license, so three ambulances were allocated without modifications. However, the UGT warns that there will be an “overload” of these technicians who will do shifts to cover Monday to Saturday from 06.00 to 22.00 hours.
“All these people who have the C are going to be overloaded. Because, even if they put an attendant on it, they’re going to do all the chair services. They are going to be the only three ambulances for drivers with type C licenses, with the hydraulic ramps that they have not modified, that are going to carry all the work,” they detailed at the time.
