The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has deactivated from 8 am today, Saturday, the weather alerts in the Balearic Islands. This Saturday, several areas of Catalonia and Valencia remain on orange alert due to the significant risk of heavy rains and storms, some accompanied by hail, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). The alert situation particularly affects Castellón and Tarragona, with forecasts of accumulations of up to 100 liters per square meter in just 12 hours. In the Valencian Community, which has suffered the most devastating effects of the DANA this week, the alert for significant risk of rainfall focuses on Castellón, where the situation will persist throughout the day. In areas of the northern interior and northern coast of Castellón, rainfall of up to 40 liters per square meter in one hour and 100 liters in 12 hours is expected.
The yellow alert affects the southern coast of Castellón, where up to 20 liters are expected in one hour and 60 in 12 hours, with storms that could bring hail.
High risk also in Catalonia
In Catalonia, the Aemet has established the orange alert in Tarragona, especially in the south coast and pre-coastal, where rainfall could reach 100 liters per square meter in 12 hours and 40 liters in one hour. The yellow alert extends to the north coast of Tarragona, the coast of Barcelona, the south coast of Girona and the central depression of Tarragona, with expected records of between 15 and 20 liters per square meter in one hour. In addition, the coast of Barcelona is under yellow alert for coastal phenomena, due to the forecast of northeasterly winds of up to 50 kilometers per hour.
Thunderstorm and hail warnings
Storms are expected in the areas under alert, and in the yellow alert areas in Castellón and Tarragona, as well as in the coast of Barcelona, the storms could include hail. The Aemet urges the population to avoid unnecessary travel and to keep informed through official emergency channels.
