The Consell de Ibiza has initiated the process to elaborate the first regulation of passengers and regular public transport service by road on the island. This innovative measure will regulate the conditions of use and establish the rights and duties of both users and concessionary companies of the regular bus service. The public consultation to collect contributions from citizens, groups, companies and political parties will be open until December 19. Proposals can be sent through the bulletin board of the Electronic Headquarters of the Consell de Ibiza. The main objective of the regulation is to detail the general conditions of use of buses, complementing existing regulations, such as the Law of Land Transport and Sustainable Mobility of the Balearic Islands and the Law of Land Transport Management at national level.
A step towards improving public transportation
The insular director of Mobility, Roberto Algaba, has pointed out that this regulation will focus on improving the daily life of the users, covering aspects such as information at the stops, the compliance of capacity, the health conditions of the vehicles and the instructions for a correct access and descent. In addition, the regulation will include a sanctioning regime that will punish both the concessionaires’ infractions and the users’ uncivic behavior. “We want to listen to the real concerns of those who use the bus, in order to establish measures that benefit both passengers and the service in general,” Algaba stressed. The measure is part of the ongoing work of the Consell’s Transport Department to improve the island’s bus network, which has undergone a renewal of lines, a reduction in the average age of vehicles and will culminate with the entry into operation of new concessions.
A tool for the future of transportation in Ibiza
The regulation comes at a key moment, when Ibiza’s public bus service is on track to close 2025 with more than 7 million users, a figure that reflects the positive impact of the improvements implemented so far. This new regulatory framework seeks to consolidate that progress and ensure a more efficient and accessible service for all. Those interested in participating in the public consultation can access the initial draft on the Consell’s official website, thus contributing to a process that promises to transform public transport on the island.
