The Local Police of Sant Antoni, in conjunction with the municipal cleaning service, has carried out the dismantling of eight illegal settlements in various areas of the municipality. The action, developed in recent days, has allowed the removal of 3,809 kg of waste, including bulky items such as tents, mattresses and furniture. Six of the settlements were located in the area of sa Talaia, one more in Camí des Regueró and another in a drainage tunnel on the road to Sant Rafel. The location of these settlements would not have been possible without the collaboration of citizens, who provided the notice to the authorities. In addition, the intervention was supported by the Drone Unit of the Department of Environment, which guided the agents to the most difficult points to access.
Hazards and preventive action
The Local Police have underlined the importance of these interventions to prevent fire risks in forest areas. In particular, the settlement located in Sant Rafel represented an additional risk as it was located in a flood zone, which endangered the safety of the occupant. For this reason, the elements found were immediately removed. The authorities have identified the people occupying these settlements and, in an effort to offer help, they were offered the possibility of accessing the benefits of the Social Services of the City Council, including accommodation in the low-demand center of sa Joveria.
Citizen collaboration, key to intervention
The Police have thanked the neighbors for their active cooperation, highlighting that some of the settlements were located in places that were difficult to access and not visible to the naked eye. This collaboration has been essential to detect and dismantle these camps that not only pose a public health problem, but also a risk to the environment and the safety of the people involved.
