The Official State Gazette (BOE) has published the royal decree declaring from this Thursday three days of national mourning for the at least 95 dead and several missing people in Comunidad Valenciana, Castilla-La Mancha and Andalucía due to the DANA, one of the biggest natural disasters in the history of Spain. “As a testimony of the pain of the Spanish Nation and as a sign of condolence to the families and other people close to the deceased and missing in the floods that occurred on October 29 and 30, 2024,” reads the Government’s royal decree, signed by King Felipe VI. The declaration of official mourning, which will remain until midnight on Saturday, implies that the national flag will fly at half-mast in all public buildings and Navy ships.
