The National Police in Ibiza has detected on the island an increase of complaints due to‘phishing‘. As highlighted from the Citizen Participation group, they have warned of the increase in recent weeks of complaints of bank scams through this method. Thus, the‘CEO fraud‘ is a type of technological scam whose objective is to deceive authorized employees to issue payments. The criminals impersonate their identity by means of a phone call or an email interposing themselves between negotiations between different companies. In this way they are able to trick the employee into making a funds transfer, when the victim believes he or she is making a payment to a legitimate customer. These accounts to which the payments are diverted are usually in the name of a person who lends his or her data to open bank accounts for the fraudsters. On other occasions they try to get hold of personal and confidential information, as well as the credentials needed to access your online banking or credit card numbers. To do this, cybercriminals pose as a trusted entity and ask the user to download a file, a code or click on a malicious link via SMS, email or even a phone call. Normally, characters are modified in these links to make the redirected address look like the real one. From the Police have recalled that banks never request banking credentials information via email, SMS or other digital channels, so you should be wary and do not click if you can not ensure its legitimacy. It is important that users never enter their personal passwords on websites they do not trust and that they do not share their credentials (username and password) with third parties.
