The Consell de Ibiza has launched a system to make it easier for cab drivers on the island to comply with the mandatory metrological control of their taximeters, which will be necessary from January to continue operating. This mechanism has been coordinated with the Ibiza and Formentera Taxi Federation (FITIE) and a company in charge of the verifications. The island’s director of Mobility, Roberto Algaba, explained that the initiative seeks to offer cab drivers a simple tool to comply with this requirement. The system establishes a calendar with assigned days so that fixed cabs can request their appointment and carry out the verification in an orderly manner. “It is an alternative to facilitate the procedure, but professionals are free to perform this check with another company or in another autonomous community if they prefer,” Algaba clarified.
Inclusion of seasonal licenses
During the meeting, which was also attended by the Councilor for Public Transport of the City Council of Ibiza, Ruben Sousa, it was proposed to extend this initiative to cabs with seasonal licenses. According to Algaba, the intention is that these professionals can also schedule their verifications before the summer season, ensuring that all vehicles are in order to operate in summer.
A pilot test with a vision for the future
The system, which will be available in the coming days, will be communicated through the social networks of the Consell de Ibiza and FITIE. This pilot model could serve as a basis for future bureaucratic procedures in the sector, offering more agile tools to keep the controls and documentation necessary to operate up to date.
