Although the data are encouraging, the Infection Committee will make a final decision next Monday, depending on the complete results of the culture. If confirmed, the thorough cleaning of the facility will have achieved its objective, allowing surgical and obstetric activity to resume under optimal aseptic conditions.
Preventive measures and continuous monitoring
Since the preventive closure of the operating room and delivery room last week, rigorous disinfection measures have been implemented, including a thorough cleaning of the air conditioning system and a review of protocols for uniforms and air filters. The aim has been to ensure a safe environment for both patients and healthcare personnel, minimizing risks associated with possible contamination. During this period, there have been no emergency transfers for childbirth or critical surgical procedures. The only interventions affected were five non-urgent ones scheduled for last week and another five scheduled for next Monday, which have been rescheduled without major complications.
Effective preventive management
The Health Area of Ibiza and Formentera has pointed out that the measures taken have been key to avoid further complications. An alternative operating room remains reserved for possible emergencies, although so far it has not been necessary to use it, which reinforces the effectiveness of the contingency plan. According to Catalina Serra, Infection Control nurse, “the priority has always been to ensure patient safety and optimal working conditions.” Serra stressed the importance of maintaining high standards in surgical areas and the relevance of preventive actions to protect the healthcare community.
