The Ibiza Town Hall has initiated a sanctioning file amounting to 453,416.77 euros for the illegal tourist rental of an apartment located in the center of the city, detected by the Local Police thanks to a citizen complaint through the Green Line. Sanctioning tourist apartments from the urban planning areas is one of the novelties in the fight against this form of intrusiveness. The Local Police found that people of Spanish and Italian nationality were renting the property through Airbnb, which led to the opening of the procedure. “Impunity is over. The houses without a tourist license are to live in them,” stressed Mayor Rafael Triguero, in a statement released by the City Council of Ibiza this Saturday, recalling that the change of use without an enabling title is punishable by fines of between 50% and 100% of the value of the building.
Penalty history: more than 850,000 euros in recent fines
This case is in addition to a previous complaint for a serious urban infraction that led to a proposed fine of more than 850,000 euros in October. Also derived from a Green Line complaint, this fine affected a tourist apartment rented to a foreigner through Airbnb. In parallel, last June, the Consell de Ibiza, in collaboration with the Local Police, processed sanctions against six illegal homeowners. The fines, which amounted to 224,000 euros, were applied after finding irregularities such as the lack of responsible declaration or prior communication for tourist activity.
